Milling fresh oat flour

Milling fresh oat flour

Posted by Hank in wheat and grain

Josiah and I discovered a secret to milling oat flour from whole oats.

We were trying to make oat flour for our home baked bread when we discovered the oats were too soft for the grain mill.

It kept clogging up the mill stones.

Josiah put a 50% mix of oats and hard wheat through the mill and to our most pleasant surprise, the oats milled into a nice flour. In future we will mix one part of hard wheat to one part of oats when milling oat flour. The oat and wheat flour bread tasted great.
