Karina mill – A beautiful electric grain mill

Posted by Hank in Grain mills - Electric

TeAomihia demonstrate how to use the Karina mill to mill fresh flour in New Zealand.

If you make bread twice a week or more, using an electric grain mill makes a significant time difference.

Milling your own mix of flours is also satisfying as you can try a mix of varieties of grains in your bread making.

This is one of the most attractive looking, powerful grain mills available.

The Karina Mill available to families, wards and stakes in NZ.

Product specifications from the manufacturer

Both mills are available in NZ via the contact form at the bottom of this page.

In Europe the sisters favour this mill. I like it because it is a proven and tested mill. Now for the first time we have a home mill available in NZ with natural stone granite.

Granite mill stones are expensive and I recommend them for health reasons. If it is nearly within your reach financially, spring for granite.

When the Karina mills arrive I will get one and try my recipes with the fine flour. I’ll take photos and post my report here, however, it’s already a proven mill in Europe for many years. I only expect good surprises from it.

Description

Karina is pleasing just to look at! However the results you can achieve will please you even more. Even very difficult recipes are successful

Modern Italian Design – Tested Technology

The Mill stones

  • Under high pressure the corundum and ceramic mass is pressed into the mill-stone form and subsequently burned in a furnace at a very high temperature.
  • The mill-stones are extremely hard – are self-sharpening, give long-life service and the milling chamber is easy to clean.
  • Exact co-ordination of the size of the mill-stone with the performance of the motor combined with the new heat- and energy-reduced geometry of the grinding mechanism guarantee gentle milling of the grain.
  • The special, flexible positioning of the mill-stones has two advantages: Very low levels of noise during milling (approx.. 70 dB) and protection from greater damage to the grinding mechanism caused by foreign particles in the grain.

What else you should know about Karina

Design and Housing

Produced solely from lathe-worked, solid beech wood. This together with the pure form of processing used gives Karina a particular set of values. The milling chamber and also the funnel are both produced from solid, untreated beech wood – a joy for all lovers of nature!

The Funnel and Milling-Chamber

The wood used for the milling chamber of the mill is exposed to the highest demands. At full- power the mill-stone grinds the corn, using the rotation of the stone to transport the flour to the sides and the base of the milling chamber. Abraded particles from the milling chamber would then enter your flour – for this reason we reject the use of plastic materials, and only use solid, natural, untreated and above all hard wood. According to latest research beech wood is antibacterial, and it has long been known that wood is antistatic.

A wooden milling-chamber is subject only to very small degrees of static loading so that practically no static loading is passed on to the flour

In comparison many types of man-made fibres are subject to high degrees of static loading. One well-known, visual and perceptible sign of discharge is e.g. with artificial materials the so-called electrical spark.

Insulation:

A 4 cm thick heat insulating layer is placed between the motor and the milling chamber, thus reducing any heat transmission from the motor to the flour.

Rough and Fine Adjustment

Our easy to use, robust rough and fine adjustment controls can be operated with one hand. Reliable for more than 30 years! A perfect technical solution ensures that the mill-stones remain in an exact parallel position to each other during the whole life-span of the mill (there are no thread connections – just the lifting and lowering of the lower mill-stone. This technology was adapted from automotive clutch technology – and is the logical guarantee to result in fine flour over a period of many years!).The degree of fineness desired can be directly adjusted – even during the milling process.

The Motor

Exact co-ordnation of the mill-stone with a robust 300 watt industrial motor with optimum energy requirements results in reduced energy consumption. You can save on expensive energy costs!

The powerful motor can grind corn

The high-performance industrial motor is both compact and of sufficient size, runs extremely quietly, is stabile, trouble- and maintenance-free.

The integrated coil protection protects from costly damage due to overheating.

Photos of the Karina mill being used

Pour the grain in from top, like this. The mill-stones are extremely hard – are self-sharpening, give long-life service and the milling chamber is easy to clean. This is how to remove the top section. A key is provided. The modern granite milling mechanism has been constructed according to the latest findings in mill-stone technology. Reduced energy consumption – cooler flour and agreeably low noise levels when milling.

Lift off the lathe-worked, solid beech wood. You will see the stones. This together with the pure form of processing used gives Karina a particular set of values. The milling chamber and also the funnel are both produced from solid, untreated beech wood – a joy for all lovers of nature!

How to clean the mill. Dust off the flour. A small brush is provided for this. At full- power the mill-stone grinds the corn, using the rotation of the stone to transport the flour to the sides and the base of the milling chamber. Abraded particles from the milling chamber would then enter your flour. No plastic materials, only solid, natural, untreated and above all hard wood.

When the lid is on there is even less sound from the operating mill. Also, it’s good to mill flour cooly. To do this, a 4 cm thick heat insulating layer is placed between the motor and the milling chamber, thus reducing any heat transmission from the motor to the flour.

See, it’s easy to use. I recommend you don’t let children operate it without a some training on care first. The fine adjustment controls can be operated with one hand. Reliable for more than 30 years. A perfect technical solution ensures that the mill-stones remain in an exact parallel position to each other during the whole life-span of the mill (there are no thread connections – just the lifting and lowering of the lower mill-stone. This very kool technology was adapted from automotive clutch technology – and is the logical guarantee to result in fine flour over a period of many years!). The degree of fineness desired can be directly adjusted – even during the milling process.

Put your bowl to the side. See how the flour shoots out to full your bowl? Exact co-ordnation of the mill-stone with a robust 300 watt industrial motor with optimum energy requirements results in reduced energy consumption. You can save on expensive energy costs!

To look after your mill, don’t let children use your key at all. It is easy to use and requires no great pressure. The high-performance industrial motor is both compact and of sufficient size, runs extremely quietly, is stable, trouble- and maintenance-free.

The integrated coil protection protects from costly damage due to overheating.
